This is about the Thorburn household, we stayed in Scotland on the north east edge of Glasgow, Karen still does. This gave us easy access to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs as well as the city. Unfortunately we split up last year and I have now moved to a flat in Springburn which is in the the north of the City. This page is dedicated to my only daughter Emma, part of her story is shown below.

I'm John, and the two opposite are Karen and Emma along with Buttons, in order to save your eyesight I've not included myself in the mug shot. Emma was born in Oct 1992 and was 3 when this picture was taken in 1996. In May 95 she was finally diagnosed as having a rare form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. Emma was treated at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children here in Glasgow. However, in spite of very intensive treatment, Emma gave up her hold of life in June 1996. Emma when she was not feeling ill was a very happy, loving wee girl who loved to play and sing, she was a singing kettle fan. She also had an amazing ability to do jigsaws. I used the web extensively to get hold of information on this type of cancer as there was no other source I could find in Scotland. It didn't take long to figure out that the doctors giving me only information they thought we wanted to hear and I found that a lot of it was completely misleading. At least with the knowledge I obtained I could make up my own mind as to what was being offered. We could have done with having more direct contact with others who were further through the process. If there are any other parents who miss their daughter or son as much as I do want to get in touch, feel free, You'll find I've included a few links further down, to pages on the www that I found of use. Life however in spite of what you may think still goes on, although your view of what is important changes completely. It finally spurred me on to do some studying and I started an Open University Course T171 called "You, Your Computer and the Net". To my utter amazement, I passed this and for anyone interested the following link shows my pathetic attempts. http://www.thorburn.co.uk/ecafolder/index.htm

As promised, here are the couple of links to other pages I've found useful
·
Pleural Mesothelioma Center - Pleural mesothelioma
is by far the most prevalent form of mesothelioma.
According to the American Cancer Society, three-quarters of all mesothelioma cases are pleural. Pleuralmesothelioma.com
offers the most comprehensive and current information on asbestos exposure and mesothelioma. I did not realise
that this can affect children as well as adults.
